Laparoscopy Auckland is a surgeon-designed, purpose built laparoscopic surgical unit, which was opened in March 2001 by the Governor General, Dame Sylvia Cartwright.
It is fitted with state of the art laparoscopic equipment and run as a short-stay surgical hospital, with facilities for overnight stay.
Staff have been carefully selected by the two prinicipal surgeons, Andrew Bowker and John Dunn. Andrew and John are recognised as being pioneers of laparoscopic surgery in New Zealand. They have been joined by Jonathan Koea, Associate Professor of Surgery, who brings his own set of skills.
Laparoscopy Auckland is the only surgical unit in New Zealand which has laparoscopic surgery as its prime focus.
